Good Evening, Fellow Cottonwoodites!
Congrats again to Eaglessoarfree on her wonderful blog yesterday. She now has the record for comments here and I think on the SS site too. I am going to have to step up my game a bit after that one! 🙂
Yesterdays events in the Eagle Nation deserves a blog of their own so look for that coming up in the near future. I am glad they rescued Snap but I do have a few things to say about what happened that won’t be pleasant to hear. It will be better to hear them after the whole affair has been resolved. As of now Snaps condition is rated as poor by the Raptor Center. Here’s hoping the little guy rallies and makes a full recovery.
On to todays doin’s at the MNB nest.
The day started bold and beautiful on the nest with a lovely sunrise and a nestover breakfish. Arky didn’t seem too interested in food early on and at around 0830 she showed us why. She horked up not 1, not 2, but three pellets of the stuff that she couldn’t digest over the last few days. I am sure she felt much hungrier and much thinner after getting rid of those. Dakota had his fair share of food although it was usually after Arky was too stuffed to move. Both eaglets had pillow crops for their late morning naps.
Early afternoon saw Dad break his unlucky streak at his favorite fishin’ hole and come back with not one but two very nice fishys for an lovely afternoon lunch. Mom took care of the feeding chores as Dad was out fishing and filled first Arky and then Dakota to the brim. Arky has been a little stinker toward Dakota the last few days and today was no exception. She bonked Dakota many times today mostly just because. We are hoping that abates in the next week or so but I am also hoping Dakota just hauls off and smacks Arky a good one when she isn’t looking! 🙂
The kids spent a lot of time today just sunning by themselves on the nest as Mom and Dad went off to tend to other things. Naps were the order of the day and as evening came on their crops were topped up again in preparation for the overnight hours. After sunset the cam gnome found Dad on the high branch across the way and as the last light left the skies all was good in the cottonwood.
On to the pics and vids of the day!
