Nest Update 6-18-14 – Whoopie Wednesday!

Good Evening, Fellow CamBackOnCheerers!!

Broadband Corp came through again amid bad weather, mosquitos, equipment outages, and mud to bring us live video from the nest. All Hail, BBC! And thank you from all the chatters wherever they might be!

When the cam returned we saw Arky and Dakota for the first time since last Thursday doing just about the same things they were doing when we saw them last. They seem to have survived the storms intact and in good health. Gee, I guess that means all the worrying and angst over them was wasted energy as worry so often is. They were napping, wingersizing, beakering, and doing laps around the nest, standard stuff for this point in their lives. Mom or Dad, we couldn’t tell which, was spotted on the far power pole across the road. Later on in the evening Dad (we think) was spotted across the way on his favorite evening perch. The pond looks to have risen about another 6 inches from all the rain and the old goose eggs are floating away at last. We also spotted some future meals swimming around the old goose nest. Contrary to the opinion of some there is no sign that the river “flooded out” the whole area around the nest as that would have filled the pond to over flowing which did not happen from the lovely shots we saw of it today.

It seems that the people that my last blog was aimed at are not happy with me and are trying to rewrite history. It’s really too bad as they have completely missed the point. My point that I have been trying to make, and I’ll put it here in BIG letters so they can’t miss it, is: IT IS THE STATED POLICY OF BOTH BROADBAND CORP AND MN BOUND THAT NO ONE, FOR ANY REASON, SHOULD VISIT THE NEST AREA. The reasons for this policy are manifold. There is no safe parking area along the road, the land the nest is on and all of the area surrounding it is private property and they want to avoid the problems that have happened at some other nests with visitors. It seems though that some people, some of whom have already come to the notice of the MN DNR for plotting a trip to the DNR nest which is in a restricted area, think that just because they want to they can visit the nest anytime they feel like it. I hope you will join me in condemning their past, and future, if any, actions,. Oh, and by the way, I have not lost my marbles. I have misplaced my keys a few times but my marbles are right where they’ve always been.

On to the vids and pics of the day!

The cam’s back up?? And I was just in the middle of laundry day. Oh, well, I guess it will have to wait!!

Thanks again to BBC for getting the cam back online. With all of the problems that the weather has caused they still went the extra miles to help us see our favorite eagle family. We are extremely lucky to have them with us on this journey of discovery!

Good night to all and happy viewing tomorrow!

We’ll see you on the nest!

If you have been wondering where the mods went we are here: If you tire of the arguing, lack of answers, trolls, and bad information in the unmoderated chat at the cam page please come visit us and we will welcome you with open arms. We set up the new chat to be a safe haven for discussion and information. Also click to join the MN Bound Chatters group on Facebook: It is a closed group so just click and one of the admins will add you toot-suite. Thanks!

I respect Talon and Shoe for their knowledge of eagles and willingness to share with others.
Rules are rules, if you think they don’t apply to you – hope you don’t get caught.
If you don’t like Talon’s post – why are you reading it. Take your anger issues somewhere else!!
Thank you both – you are appreciated very much.

NO ONE, FOR ANY REASON, SHOULD VISIT THE NEST AREA. Very good advice! Dad was a firefighter and he ALWAY said, “NO ONE (except fire fighters), FOR ANY REASON, SHOULD VISIT A FIRE AREA.” This taught me a respect for boundaries and an understanding of one’s proper place in society that I will never lose. Especially after 9/11- way too many folks here were going where they didn’t belong & could not ‘help.’ Let’s bring back boundary respect in the 21st Century. And PS: leave the Es alone, pls…they are more sensitive than Greta Garbo.

My goodness, Wendy must spend a lot of time on this blog refreshing the page and hoping for an update. Why, it’s almost like she’s a fan!

Talon, I’m a long time lurker but I thought it would be nice to let you know that I enjoy each and every one of your posts. I find them well informed and with good humor. Thanks for what you do! Oh, and that grand baby of yours is a cutie as well!!

A good rule of thumb for all wildlife is that if the animal changes their behavior in reaction to your presence…you are too close

US Fish & Wildlife has established general guidelines for an exclusion area for bald eagle nests. Perhaps those that want to debate this matter, should do some research. You’ll find that you will be more informed and whether your debate is valid or not.

Nice back pedaling! Gosh, you still make me sick and a whole lot of others too when they see your newest pack of lies! In caps: NO ONE HAS TRESPASSED, Talon! What is wrong with you? On the DNR nest or otherwise! Why are you doing this? They’ve all explained themselves over and over and are certainly MUCH more respectful than some.
We are TRUE eagle lovers, NOT lover’s of ‘power and control’ like you! Gosh! And I see you are still posting pics of your darling grand baby… Have you not heard the news in the last year? You should quit exploiting her, even if you think you are making a point. You have put her at risk, she even looks like you, D.!!

      Minnesota Nongame Wildlife Program

      Hi all,

For those of you that know where the MN DNR EagleCam is located, you should not be sharing this information with others. We do not want people congregating in the area for a variety of reasons, including the nest (and we have already had a few issues). Much of the area is already a restricted access area.

      Thank you for understanding,
      Nongame Wildlife Team

I’m not sure if your comment is made to me but just in case – I was responding to

Partial quote: NO ONE HAS TRESPASSED, Talon! What is wrong with you? On the DNR nest or otherwise!

To show that the statement made was wrong about DNR.

To Wendy & Sportsterlady (think that was her nickname the other day) : You have no business going anywhere near the nest – cam on or not! Do some research on the Connor”s Lake Loon cam/nest from 2 years ago. crazy lady kept hassling cam operators & the person who put the nest out when little chick was injured. She was so obnoxious & then went to nest site to see for herself & possibly “rescue” chick even tho professionals had already checked on it. Result?? Cam was shut down & has not been back for 2 summers now. She ruined it for everyone!!! Nature is what it is & can sometimes be cruel. Get used to that or do not watch. Be thankful you have this wonderful opportunity to watch the good & the bad – learn from it – and leave the critters alone. Also stop slamming & insulting the wonderful people who make it possible for the rest of us to see nature as it really is. thanks to BB & Talon & anyone else who makes this all possible! “Just saying—“
