Nest Update 6-30-14 – Plenty Of Prey And Play

Good Evening, Fellow WanderingNestizens!!

The food train today arrived early. Around 0630 a nice tasty fishy was delivered and the meal started with the usual antics but by the end of it Arky and Dakota were eating side by side with a minimum of fuss. After stuffing their crops full they began their day of exploring for new places to hide and scare the chatters into thinking they had skipped town. It seems that Arky has decided the she likes the high perch with Mom and Dad and Dakota likes the challenge of scaling up the big branch just above the mount perch. They gave the panner a workout again today hiding in these places and then appearing suddenly out of nowhere when food or exercise was called for.

Around midday another aquatic avian was delivered and this was a more traditional scrum for possession. Arky started the meal and then, as she has the past several days made it easy for Daki to steal and get the start of his share. Arky seems to have mellowed a lot and doesn’t bully Daki quite as much as she used to. This meal went the tradeoff route also with the both of them getting good portions.

About an hour and a half later another tasty fishy was delivered and Daki didn’t even come down at first to contend for it. Must of been that full crop that deterred him. Arky finally got mom to feed her some fish and the both had some tasty fishy. When the fish was down to about 4 inches long Dakota decided he wanted some after all and he came diving down and stole it from Mom. Mom and Arky left and Daki finished it off.

Early evening saw an unidentifiable furry snack come to the nest. They both had some of it and a P also joined in snacking for a bit. Afterward playtime began with both Arky and Dakota bouncing around to various spots on the tree and giving the panner fits of where to pan the camera next. This playtime lasted almost until deep dark when they both finally settled in on the nest for the night.

I tried a new way of doing screencaps today that was supposed to be better and faster. Well it turned out to be neither and was a lot more work on the backend. So I apologize for the lack of stills and captions today.

I did get a couple of new friends from the Berry College store in the mail today.

I hope that your week started well and you are excited as we are at the prospect that a fledge or two is imminent. We’ll see you on the nest tomorrow!
