Nest Update 7-3-14 – A Quiet Day…. Oh Look, A Fledge!

Good Evening, Fellow FledgeCheerers!!

Thursday dawned lovely as all of the days of this Independence Day week have. It was very quiet in the nest tree for most of the morning with no breakfish served and a very minimal amount of squeeing by Dakota heard. Arky’s squee was heard faintly several times but no sight of her was to be had. Our intrepid panner scanned the area slowly several times but had no luck spotting Arky. Speculation was rife, things got testy in the cam SS and BBC came on to say if things didn’t settle down chat would be closed. That seemed to calm things down a bit but worries still ran rampant.

The DNR was contacted by the mods on the NestsRUs chat and the local ranger did a check on the nest area. His words from an email he sent: Eaglet is alive and appeared healthy…it flew across the Crow River when it saw me. And after the mods thanked him: Glad to help. The Eaglet was right next to the river about 10-15 yards from the base of the tree (toward river). Our sincere thanks from all of the chatters, lurkers and lovers of the MNB nest to the DNR for being Johnny on the spot when it was needed.

Early afternoon saw both parents do a fly in with what looked to be a coot from the feet that were seen on the nest. The feeding started on the high perch with Dad and Daki squeeing up a storm. Mom landed between them and looked to try to take over. In the scuffle that followed she ended up falling off the branch and ended up in the nest with the snack a few seconds later. Daki came storming down from the high perch to reclaim his lunch. He snatched it from Mom and mantled like a pro. Mom left and Daki finished off the meal on the cam mount perch trying to swallow the last leg whole. He struggled with it for a bit and then it seemed in one of his gyrations of trying to get it down he dropped it over the side. Oh well, they aren’t that nutritious anyway!

Late evening saw Arky return to the treetop. We could hear her coming from her squees and Daki’s too when he saw her approach. The panner scanned around several times and finally spotted her on Dads perch on the yonder branch. It turns out he was over there too as we saw him do a great fly-off as the darkness deepened. She stayed there until full dark and the panner gave us the standard night road shot.

On to the vids and pics of the day.

Dragonlainey is on a roadtrip back to Pigeon Forge with their grandkids for the weekend. We have one vid from them today and one from Birdbrain56 of Arky’s return.

Hi Talon, So good to see Aria back today, I do believe she has grown an inch since last time I saw her; still cute as a button. As the others on here were talking of MS Bound chatters, well, seems as if they got a new thing going, and I will also say that I am concerned to. Looks to me like he has something wrong with his/her R eye. I will say this and I am not going to go back there and say anything else about it on there. When she turns her head to where you can see it good and she looks from it awhile and blinks, that eye is perfect, no film, good pupil sight, good reaction time ect, now the L. eye she keeps closed a lot but when she does open it there is no pupil in sight but looks like a film over it and she turns her head slightly down to that side some and seems to bother her. Some said it was the wind blowing in that eye that was doing it, but the wind was blowing just as hard in other eye also. The gnats were bad today again, very bad. The others on here said a lot were ugly but did detect some as being haughty but not particularly mean. There also seems to be another place on the R side of her beak coming also. Let me say that I am no DR. but am a Nurse and have seen many things of these ailments, but also know these are wild things and we as people should in most cases let Nature take its course. Well I think I have said enough, so have a good week end and SED… Alice W.

Talon; Kotao’s R. eye is the one we all are seeing and think something is wrong. The ‘R’ after the his/her is correct but “the L eye she keeps closed a lot” is wrong, should be an R. One thing I forgot to mention was the chatters said the film was called something I do not remember, but maybe you will know what they were talking about. Sorry I had to write another book, but did not want to mislead you. If you know how to edit or change those incorrect letters would appreciate it if you would; I did not see a Edit button or word. Thanks again, Alice W.

As usual, BRAVO TALON!! You tell it like it is and let the chips fall where they may! I want to especially thank LBJ for setting up the Nests SS where things stay SANE instead of all the drama going on at the MNB SS. MNB’s mod loss is OUR GAIN!! Happy 4th of July to all and don’t forget to praise God and thank our troops for your freedom!

The eagle represents freedom. Living as he does on the tops of lofty mountains, amid the solitary grandeur of Nature, he has unlimited freedom, whether with strong pinions he sweeps into the valleys below, or upward into the boundless spaces beyond. It is said the eagle was used as a national emblem because, at one of the first battles of the Revolution (which occurred early in the morning) the noise of the struggle awoke the sleeping eagles on the heights and they flew from their nests and circled about over the heads of the fighting men, all the while giving vent to their raucous cries. “They are shrieking for Freedom,” said the patriots. Thus the eagle, full of the boundless spirit of freedom, living above the valleys, strong and powerful in his might, has become the national emblem of a country that offers freedom in word and thought and an opportunity for a full and free expansion into the boundless space of the future.

Talon ~ Many thanks for your informative and entertaining blog. I begin each day reading it. Like some of the other responders to your blog, I had to leave the SS soon after the misinformation about Arky and downright meanness began. I have little patience with that, especially as it regards Shoebutton. I met her at the NBG nest several years ago and was very impressed with her knowledge and her sensitivity in dealing with people. I learned a wealth of info from her and respect her attempts to add something special to this MNBound site. When someone disrespects her with insults and ill-will, I find that particularly offensive. Some chatters on the MNBound SS need to grow up or leave.

So glad that Arky made it back to the nest unscathed and that the happy family is together again. Have a wonderful Fourth of July!!

When my kids were teens I thought the drama was something else, but now I find even teen eagles get into it. Phew! Anyway, glad all is well in the cottonwood. I add my thanks to everyone involved, it’s been a joy following the nest and your blog, Talon.
Have a wonderful 4th of July. May this be a joyful and safe day for all. Although I’m not an American, I certainly appreciate what your special day means to you and what your country has meant to so many of us who were children in England during WWII. Salute.
